Epithalon

Epitalon is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) modelled on a pineal-gland extract and promoted for anti-ageing effects, with very little peer-reviewed human evidence behind it.

Regulatory status: Not approved by the FDA or any major Western regulator. It has never completed a registered Western clinical trial and is sold in the US only as a research chemical.

What it is

  • A synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), a shorter analogue of epithalamin, a peptide originally extracted from bovine pineal gland.
  • Most foundational research comes from Russian laboratories, much of it published in Russian-language or smaller international journals.
  • Studied mainly in rodent, cell-culture and oocyte-ageing models via injection.
  • Only a handful of relatively recent English-language peer-reviewed studies exist.

How it is described to act

What the research has looked at

Recent mechanistic and cell studies

  • A 2020 paper in Molecules reported that the AEDG peptide stimulated gene expression and protein synthesis during neurogenesis in vitro, proposing an epigenetic mechanism.
  • A 2022 study in Aging reported that Epitalon protected against post-ovulatory ageing-related damage in mouse oocytes in vitro.

The older Russian literature

  • Publications from Russian peptide-bioregulator groups reported life-extension and telomerase-activation effects in animal models. This body of work underpins most Epitalon marketing but is not well replicated in independent Western peer review, and much of it is not indexed or translated.

Strength of evidence: Preclinical evidence only

Bluntly: the evidence is thin. A small number of animal and in-vitro studies plus older, poorly replicated Russian-language work, with essentially no rigorous human clinical outcome data.

What is published comes from cell and animal studies. Findings in those models frequently do not carry over to people.

Reported cautions and unknowns

  • No FDA-reviewed human safety data exist, and the research-chemical market provides no verified purity or dosing consistency.
  • The available studies are short-duration animal and cell experiments, so long-term human safety is unknown rather than reassuring.

How do you reconstitute Epitalon?

A common starting point for a 50 mg vial of Epitalon is 5 mL of bacteriostatic water, which gives 10 mg per mL. Aim the water down the inside wall of the vial, let it dissolve on its own, and roll gently instead of shaking. How many units of Epitalon is one dose?

At 10 mg per mL, that works out to about 50 units on a U-100 insulin syringe for a 5000 mcg dose. Change the vial size, water volume, or target dose in the calculator and the syringe reading updates with it. This is arithmetic, not a dosing recommendation.

What dosing schedule is reported for Epitalon?

Published and community sources describe 5–10 mg, subcutaneous, every day, typically run 2 weeks on and 24 weeks off. These figures describe what has been reported, not what anyone should take — talk to a licensed clinician first.
