Lipo-B is a compounded lipotropic injection combining methionine, inositol and choline (MIC) with vitamin B12, sold by clinics and med-spas as a fat-loss adjunct.
Regulatory status: Not FDA-approved for weight loss. Cyanocobalamin (B12) is approved only as a vitamin for deficiency and pernicious anaemia; methionine, inositol and choline are not approved drugs for fat loss, and the combination has never been through FDA drug review. The FTC has repeatedly warned that injectable weight-loss claims of this kind are typically unsubstantiated.

What the older literature covers
- Older pharmacology literature on choline and methionine describes their role in hepatic lipid handling in animal and biochemical models — not human fat-loss outcomes.
- Correcting genuine B12 deficiency is well documented to improve fatigue in deficient patients. That is a different claim from fat loss.
What is missing
- A PubMed search located no randomised controlled trial testing the MIC + B12 injectable combination for weight loss.
Strength of evidence: Preclinical evidence only
The rationale is biochemical and the supporting data are old animal and biochemistry work. No modern controlled trial of the combined injectable for weight loss was located.
What is published comes from cell and animal studies. Findings in those models frequently do not carry over to people.
Reported cautions and unknowns
- Any injectable carries injection-site pain, swelling and infection risk, and compounded products vary in quality control.
- Excess methionine and B12 have limited documented toxicity, but unregulated dosing varies by provider.
- It is not a substitute for approved anti-obesity medication, and marketed fat-loss claims for these injections have drawn FTC scrutiny as unsubstantiated.

How do you reconstitute Lipo-B?
